Aphesis House

Words from Prince E.

I feel that the Aphesis House is a launch pad. It can take you anywhere you wanna go with the right perspective.

The house has a good influence about it: Spirituality, Responsibility, Discipline, Guidance, Support and most of all unconditional understanding and forgiveness.

But may I also add that the Aphesis House is not a push over. We men of the house are very serious about our freedom and recovery from drugs and alcohol. There is no room in this house at all for slacking and unwillingness.

Words from Chance B.

Before coming to Aphesis House, my life was a mess. My addiction had taken me to the point that I had lost everything that was near and dear to me. My family, home, job and car were all gone. I was homeless and hopeless.

After spending 6 months at the Mission, locked in a cycle of working all week, getting pad and smoking up everything I made, I got into a transitional housing program and began to get my life back together. I stopped using, starting working my recovery and began to save money for my own place. After about 3 months, I got complacent and began to drift away from the program that had been working so well. Soon after that I used, failed a drug test and was kicked out of the program. I had to find another place to live. Getting my own place just wasn’t an option. I needed a place with some structure.

I had read an article about Aphesis House in the paper and it sounded like a good program. As luck would have it, the House was within walking distance of my job and right on the bus line. I was little worried about who I might be living with but that fear was quickly lost in my first House meeting. I’ve been to many 12 step meetings and lots of group therapy but sitting there with my housemates, I had the best meeting of my life. They guys’ concern for my situation was obvious. They had been where I was and wanted to help. I received some great feedback. I knew the decision to come to Aphesis House was the right one.

The staff at Aphesis House really cares and wants me to succeed. They developed a personal sobriety plan for me. The accommodations here are great. There aren’t too many people here. I have my own room. It’s location on the bus line and proximity to downtown make it a convenient and comfortable place to live.

Aphesis did for me what I thought was impossible. It gave me hope and another chance at life.

Words from Chancey P.

I was released from prison on 3/31/05. Being locked up for a while, you kinda get used to your situation. But my real concern was on my day of release. I had to figure out how to stay out. Aphesis House gave me a new start. Here I was in a different state and city. By the way, I am from North Carolina, born and raised. Any how, it was Aphesis House, with its programs of different groups coming in, assuring the men that if you wanted to be productive and stay out its not hard nor is it easy but it can be done. Even though I had already found a job, the programs at Aphesis provide that service as well. Aphesis provides mean a safe shelter upon release from prison and a good start back into society. I’ve been out now for 9 months and I’m still doing good and it started with God, and the good people at Aphesis.

Words from Charles T. Holt (Tim)

My name is Charles T. Holt (Tim) and I can truly say that I am grateful for another opportunity and I am truly blessed that being here at Aphesis House has helped me put some things in perspective. What I like about the guys here is that the people that you are surrounded by are not going to “sugar coat” things for you. What I like about the people here is that they are totally honest. They let me know if I was disgusted with my life and the way I was doing certain things in my life was not right and if it wasn’t pleasing to God. Also, to get honest with yourself and ask yourself what do you need to do. They made me look at myself and examine my situations from my past. If I keep doing what I’ve been doing, I will keep getting what I’ve always gotten, and that is nowhere. Since, I took time out to apply what they suggested to do with my life, today I look at myself and I am very satisfied with who I am. And my God has revealed to me that this is my world, so live by my rules and I won’t let you down. And you want to know what I found out since I have been here doing what I am supposed to do, not only here but everywhere I go? God kept his promise and things are much better for me (today) in my life.
